Race to the Stones Ultra-marathon - 4th Jul 2020

Location: The Ridgeway: Chinnor to Avebury

Cost: £95 - £184

Time/Distance: 100 km

The Dixons Carphone’s Race to the Stones is designed so that people from elite endurance athletes to first timers can walk away with the gratification that comes from testing their limits and finding out what it takes to challenge their minds and bodies! This fully supported 100 km ultra-marathon is a great elite endurance “win” for those looking to step-up and test themselves against the competition. However, if you are a novice to ultra-marathons, this course is a great one to start with as it does not have any monstrous hills to contend with, but the course is still not completely flat. The route is almost entirely off road with only a couple of short on road sections that are well marshalled to ensure participants’ safety.

For 5,000 years, men and women have left their marks on these chalk paths and woodland tracks, making this one of the most captivating routes within the UK. However, it isn’t just the history which makes the Race to the Stones a unique test; the route runs almost entirely within designated areas of outstanding natural beauty, with views to inspire you even when your legs are beginning to waver and scream for rest. Through the course, you will also be passing some of the most famous landmarks of the Chilterns and the North Wessex Downs, like Grim’s Ditch, the White Horse of Uffington, Liddington Castle, Dragon Hill, Barbury Castle and the mystical down-lands of the Salisbury Plain to the finish line at the 3,000 year old stone circle at Avebury.

Junkies, whether you are out to beat the field or just out to beat your best ultra time, the Race to the Stones is perfect for you, as it offers those who wish to complete a 100km non-stop race a chance to obtain two North Face Ultra Trail Mont-Blanc qualifying points for your efforts, which is great for those who want to try to compete in one of the Mont-Blanc races.

The course can take the average runner up to 14 hours.

Participants for the event have two options - they can either complete the 100km non-stop option or break it into two days, staying overnight at the race base camp before completing the following day.

The Dixons Carphone Race to the Stones 2020 will be taking place over the weekend of the 4th – 5th July 2020.
